The August, 1994 issue of Right On! magazine was a good one alright. Features on Heavy D (”Phatter Than Ever”), Warren G (”Dr. Dre’s Bro Gets Props”), and Tony Toni Tone (”Butt Naked Soul”) nestled alongside a coupon for Rebound Wave & Curl Activator Gel and advertisements for must-haves like the new “Talking” Digital watch (”An Alarm Sounds! A Rooster Crows! A Voice Calls Out The Time! EVERYONE CRACKS UP LAUGHING!”).Flipping through it now reminds us of a simpler time, when YO! MTV Raps ruled, Shanice was the new Janet, and no one could deny Chubb Rock had the juice. Of course, the real reason to buy Right On! was for its full-page “Color Pin Up People” pages, and the August ‘94 ish provided plenty of bedroom wall posterizing material: Onyx, Doug E Fresh, Xscape, Jodeci with Bill Bellamy, and Terminator X. Oh yeah…..and the Pharcyde.
